Our Story - Pure Passion, Pure Coffee for Everyone
In 1960, at just 17 years old, Mr. Tan Tiong Hoe began his journey in coffee as an apprentice at a Dutch trading house, Mirandolle Voute & Co. There, he mastered the craft of coffee roasting and blending—a foundation that would shape Singapore’s coffee industry.
By 1963, he had started his own business, delivering quality coffee to homes and small F&B outlets. When the 1970s saw local roasters cutting costs by mixing coffee with fillers like maize and margarine, Mr. Tan refused to compromise. He believed true coffee lovers deserved 100% pure coffee, roasted with precision and passion.
In 1975, Tiong Hoe Gim Kee Trading Co. (THGK) was officially registered, expanding into hotels, cafés, restaurants, and beyond. A decade later, Fresh Café Distributors was launched as a subsidiary, introducing fully-automatic coffee machines and a fresh brand identity.
Now, 65 years later in 2025, Fresh Café remains a family-run business, led by the second generation of the Tan family.
